My medical perspective

Understand the finding — and what it means for you.

Symptoms affect everyday life, work and sport in different ways. For me, a useful decision therefore starts not with a single image or procedure, but with your history, function, goal and the uncertainty that still needs to be resolved.

I discuss conservative and surgical approaches with their realistic possibilities and limits. This explicitly includes modern conservative and orthobiologic treatments such as PRP or ACP when the diagnosis and treatment goal support their use. A recommendation should be understandable and make a concrete next step possible.

Clinical practice and training

Sports orthopedics shaped by university medicine and international research.

My clinical and academic development has included the Technical University of Munich, LMU Munich and a research fellowship at the University of Connecticut. These experiences shaped my perspective on the shoulder and knee, biomechanics, sports injuries and rehabilitation.

As a specialist in orthopedic and trauma surgery, my clinical focus is on joint problems, sports injuries, second opinions and return-to-sport decisions. This includes ambitious recreational athletes as well as people who want to regain dependable function at work or in everyday life.

Research and teaching

Research should improve decisions.

More than 100 scientific publications, including 90 indexed in PubMed, and more than 25 medical textbook contributions form the academic foundation of my work. Research interests include sports orthopedics, the shoulder and knee, biomechanics, prevention and functional outcomes.

As a university lecturer at the Technical University of Munich, my work also includes teaching and scientific quality review. Four selected research projects received the AGA Research Award, AGA Poster Award, Perthes Award and Richard B. Caspari Award.
